I have a little friend
her name is M. Blessed.
And when I spend some time with her
I feel I’m not a mess
She helps me to be humble
She looks for all the good
She appreciates the little things
And shows me why they’re huge.
Things like a beautiful sunrise
And the graceful swim of a swan
The gentle breeze of the evergreens
The glow of light on the pond
A smile from a neighbor
A hug from children down the hall
The kindness of a cashier or gas attendant
When I need to be on the road
And she helps me not take for granted
Other treasures too:
Clean water to drink
Electricity
A safe space to sleep
And over my head a solid roof
And when we were together recently
We spoke of invisible things
Like thought resources to support our journey
And help others practically
We spoke so real and true
She had my full attention
“Our right to think is an incredible privilege
We never want to take for granted.”
She has big words for it:
Like reason,
conscience,
and self government…*
basically its just a big word way of saying
we have the right to think and choose what we allow influence us…
I love that she reminded me
I get a say in what gets my attention.
I love her gentle nudges
They echo in my thought
I hear them mostly when I am still
Especially in the morn.
Have you friended M. Blessed yet
I think you’ll like her too.
She encourages to notice
the little and big things
And most of all
How we think
What we choose.
