Friending M. Forgiven

I have a little friend.
Her name, M. Forgiven.

And when she visits me,
I hardly feel able to welcome her in.

She reminds me of my innate innocence.
She tells me I’ve always been allowed
to be God’s beloved daughter.

She assures me no motive or goal
of the absolute pure kind
was ever wrong to be pursuing.

And that there’s always time.

Whatever I’ve set out to accomplish,
no matter how massive it feels,
I’m allowed to…
through and through.

But I told her,
“I’ve talked about it for a long time.
And I’m feeling really guilty.“

And she said,

Precious Tre.
“Desire is prayer,” *

And no mind is judging thee.

She also said that like minds
don’t ever keep score.

To compare yourself with anyone,
she reminds me, is to rob you of your now good.

Try to let go of guilt,
and anything that begins with should.

She said,

Take notice of where your footsteps have faltered,

and learn from it.

Stand back up.

And keep going.

She encouraged me to check in
with my highest sense of good.

Get that inner compass steady.
And follow its nudge.”

I asked her,
How do you stay so convinced of your innocence?

She said,

“Dear Tre, ’cause innocence
is not something we must earn,
or prove behavior deserves.

But it’s innate… within us.”
