When the government shutdown last week, I didn’t flnch or panic for long anyway.
The moment I felt a sense of anxiety looming, I prayed.
Why?
Well, I’ve experienced seeming drastic change before…from hurricanes to a sense of homelessness, from break-ups to being bankrupt….a lot of drastic change…seemingly.
And yet, how I pray and what I know is true for each one of us bout how the law of Love is 24/7 in control of our lives, well, such prayer has led to healing.
From shock to calm.
From what next to one step now.
From vulnerable and insecure, to feeling safe for certain.
At least for the moments I pray til the fear looms heavy again…
(hence the why I use the phrase for this blog thought by thought 🙂 )
As biggie huge as the change seems, there’s always a way to find immediate calm…in thought… for all of us to cling to…that can help us grab hold of what’s basing our being. And grabbing hold of this gives us a sense of stable where panic would prefer to reign.
And from that sense of calm and stable, productive next steps are heard and then gradually taken.
Prayer in the midst of drastic change and ensuing chaos gives me a moment of gleaning just one more ounce of the constancy of Love’s stronghold–and care of each moment of our lives.
I wrote this poem to offer a sense of hope to anyone feeling outrage, frustration, shock or emptiness over this or any other drastic change.
Love’s Calm Steady On
We often don’t realize how much our thought of that thing secures a sense of order and calm.
How life is supposed to work!
At least not until abrupt change occurs and that thing is gone.
Only when that happens do we tend to hear our belief
Without that thing, so insists shock and fear, life is completely wrong!
What’s ‘that thing‘ you may wonder just now?
See if these ring a bell somehow.
Okay first…that thing you feel gives you a stable base
~ a home
~ a relationship
~ a job
~ even your faith.
And that thing that makes you feel adored and loved
~ your faith
~ a relationship
~ a status
~ even an infant bundle of love.
And then there’s that thing that confirms ‘yep you’re on the right track’
~ maybe your news about your now as a matter of fact
~ or the appearance of followers on your walk
~ or the comments from loved ones
~ or feedback from peers and employers saying ‘man look at all s/he’s got.”
And maybe your sense of that thing is more subtle
~ like how you grow your food so well
~ or how you live simply, feeling lacking nothing so anyone could tell
~ or even the how government runs
~ or even the what you choose to do when you just wanna have fun
There are bazillions of that thing we could go on and list
But the point is when change occurs and we are feeling chaos and shock, lemme offer this:
That thing we think gives us grounding and tender constant care
That thing we think supports our now so very near and dear
That thing we believe is proof of job well done
That thing we are certain of is what makes us feel loved and at home
That thing?
Is our thought about that thing, actually in fact.
And gentle nudge am I offering what’s helped me time and again when change abruptly happens just like that.
There is a law that is unerring and forever
That bases our being in harmony always for sure
That law is the action of Love from itself to its own
That action is our health, our security, our substance, our family, our home.
That Love can’t ever be extinguished or shutdown
That Love can’t ever be wripped away or gone somehow
That Love is a stronghold 24/7
And knowing and defending the action of Love amidst chaos grounds our thought in right now heaven.
So if you are feeling at all unstable
Here’s me hugging your heart and defending that right now you’re able
to feel this action of Love right now and always
It’s constancy assures us of protection, productivity, purpose and peace all of our days.
That thing may still feel so important to you
But I promise you what I’ve learned time and again tis true
Love that is presence and power is always supplying love
Is grounding us, rooting us, ensuring us no doubt.
So when all the opinions around you blare
And when they go ahead and pretend they didn’t love back
And when they sell the property and boot you out
And when the boss says “buh bye you’re out”
And when the bank says “yep its overdrawn”
And even when you wanna say “i feel so very done”
Its only one view of now and not the only for sure.
Whatever to it all I truly do say
Because THAT LOVE THAT IS hasn’t ever said no or shutdown for us in ANY way.
Go there friend, fill up from that Love within
You won’t regret for a millisecond the bounty of building therein.
And all that pulls of missing that thing
Will at once lessen as you thought by thought, let Love in.
