She spoke rather calmly
“That one was in my mind”
about her why behind the images of painting of wildflowers
I stared at for a time
“And this one?” I asked
As I pointed to
A pair of canyons
In bright red orange hues..
“Is this Big Bend?”
I wondered ..
“Many think it is
But actually it’s Oklahoma
way out west”
One ~ of wildflowers
Another few ~ of canyons
I was nudged further and asked:
What impels your paintings?
And graciously she said
With a very soft spoken asserting
I paint what I see…
That’s just it
I paint what I see”
And I thanked her
For being so willing
To share with me a deeper glimpse of her story
Then I asked what brought her back here
To a state so far away from the canyons she held dear
She said something nex which just made me feel hugged
The grand babies of course
I wanna live near em and give em all my love
I took these two messages with me for a while
“I paint what I see”
And “i wanna give my love to them surely”
And I thought about this
That very treasure which unfolds
When we are willing to cherish the expression of another
And when we embrace their why without any reason
Of simply valuing the what they offer to humanity
And I thought deeper still
Of how much I always adore
Speaking with people whom I’ve never met before
And seeking their why and the how they do what they do
Seems a way I value and cherish each one
To see their message of love for me and you
Have you paused of Kate to stop and look
At the beauty of life of that one standing next to you
When in traffic or taking a walk
Have you paused to cherish all the good that you saw?
I know for me when I out the lens on
That intentionally strives to see listen and hear another’s song
I find it surely again and again
Mankind my family
Humanity my forever friend
