This post is part of the #mommyme series, a collection of posts that nudge how to nurture our hearts and take care of our thoughts.

Disclosure: I struggle with this still.

But here’s the thing.

Look at the question behind the question:

The deeper question? it’s a permission thing.

Am I allowed to own my individual take?

Am I allowed to do it (whatever ‘it’ is) the way I think it oughta be done?

I hear you.

I’ve asked this.

A lot.

I’ve asked this with regard to professional life and personal life.

I’ve asked this in regard to everything.

Is this right?

Should it look like this?

What do I really think?

Entrepreneurs are blazing their own trails without a map especially here, in this space.

Here are 3 ways that help me time and again refuse the pull to wonder if I’m doing it right.

  • 1st: Know your why.
  • 2nd: Check your motive.
  • 3rd: Go nuts.

1st: Know your why: You know from the moment you’re conscious in the morning til the moment you tuck in who or what is governing your thoughts. Zap into that. Often. Get your mental arms around that foundation. It’s your base, your groundwork and it’s your center core. From that place of stillness and conviction in your inseparable relationship to it, you’re able to hear. And ideas come to you the way they do because this is your individuality. Only you are hearing what you are hearing in the exact way you are hearing it. Hence you gotta own that and be true to it….meaning: you gotta heed it.

2nd: Check your motive: This is big. Nothing wrong with a little ego and yet everything wrong with it. Check your motive. Why are you doing what you are doing. Why? Only you can answer that. Moments I’ve had the most unselved motives I shine. Moments I’m trying to one up someone or ‘show off’ or whatever other ways the ego will steer are the moments I’ve stumbled much. There’s room for everyone’s individuality without squelching anyone.

3rd: Go nuts. Once you hear the way you wanna rock and roll go for it. No holds barred especially when you’re in the midst and all the huggabaloo of mental sabotage that wants to 2nd guess your efforts starts sabotaging your every breath. And when this happens, and it will, repeat steps 1 and 2. Often.

Reminder: “Am I doing it right?” is really a question about owning your individuality. No one but your inner core can nod yes to that. And here’s the thing: for those oober honest amongst us, we can’t not own our individuality. We simply must go nuts with it. It’s how we breathe.

Those who snarl and shun, especially the inner bully within, will lessen the more you own your stuff and live it.

Here to help nudge your efforts if you need that.

And?
Yes, you’re doing it right.

How can I say that?

Because you want to.

Because you’re trying.

Because you can’t not, not when you’re acting from knowing your why and knowing your motive.

Here’s to going nuts.

You in?
