And one day….she stopped fretting…and stood still….and held this one moment

“You should be doing this,” it hissed.

“You ought to be doing that by now for Pete’s sake,” it accused.

“And but of course that should have been mastered ages ago,” it ridiculed.

The bantering of self babble strove to wreak havoc again as I walked along the streets looking for anything to give my now sense of beauty something to lean on.

I could hear me chuckling within.

My defenses were down.

I’d long ago learned the ways of the inner opponent …her tactics, her scolding, her shaming and blaming and bantering.

I was literally uninfluenced at that moment.

Up ahead I saw a swing.

And forward toward it did I quicken my walk.

And once on the swing and swaying too and fro, it was like reminiscing with an old friend.

“You see?” the mommy within nurturingly caressed my heart.

The right now moment is all that matters.

The what you are doing this moment in thought is all that matters.

The how you are not allowing the lures of self condemnation and self pity and self doubt entice your response or misinfluence your choice.

You’re getting this luvbug…You’re really getting this.”

I love the mommy  voice within. I’ve given this to myself time and again when I’m pulled to fret or fear or worry or further still to scold and shame and blame….

Or better said, when I’m lured to respond and react to that voice that does all that self babble condemning.

And in pausing and discerning thoughts more proactively, intentionally, devotedly, not only have I realized this tendency to respond to the lures of self condemning voice comes often and much, but that to the degree I stay in the right now full awareness of the presence of this moment, I am able to not respond.

Why?

Because in this right now this moment, I am me.

And in the right now this moment, there’s no judge. no jury. no verdict I’m awaiting.

All there is in the right now this moment is me and the open canvas of thought and the deep inner nudges of what I’ve come to understand is the source and motivating influence of our lives….

And it’s as I’m still and as I refuse to heed lures of self condemning that I hear this true voice….if only for moments of stillness and calm.

But as I stay with the stillness and calm, even in the midst of being mobile, I hear the now need..the now nudge…the now gentle step…..

So….

Offering this for you today in your doings:

Practice staying in the right now moment.

When lures to flutter and flury over what’s ahead or lures to ruminate over what’s behind beckon you come hither, here’s what I do:

1. I stop.

2. I pause.

3. I sift thoughts.

4. I make a conscious choice to not heed those lures.

5. I choose instead to see that in this now moment, the thoughts I maintain create the next now moment. And the next.

6. I reward myself often and much each time I don’t cave.

7. I nurture my heart with that tender loving mommy voice that adores and caresses for each victory (and each moment is a potential next victory).

8. I sit still to hear the now need and next step.

and so on….

We are creating a life, thought by thought.

We are each hearing the whatever we need to know how and as we need to know it, thought by thought.

Whether on a swing, on a walk, in a car, on a plane, in the shower, laundry room, or grocery check out line.

Here’s to holding this right now moment. 🙂
