Keepsake #13: a little story about about a girl and ‘know’

Seating on a Park Bench

A girl sat on a park bench appearing inquisitive, yet hopeful.

And she hummed.

And she looked left.

And she looked right.

And she looked left again.

And she saw a gentleman approaching.

And with an even more intense look of hopeful, called out to him, “Excuse me sir? Are you Know?”

And the gentleman peeled his glasses down, looked over the top and replied, “I’m not Know. Keep waiting.”

He walked off.

And the girl did exactly that: she kept waiting.

And she swayed her knees back and forth.

And she played with the hem on her dress. (She does this when she’s nervous).

And she looked left.

And she looked right.

And she looked left again.

And she saw an older woman strolling by.

And she said “Excuse me ma’am. Are you Know?”

And the woman glanced down rather tenderly and said to the girl, “Ah…it’s your turn.”

And she stroked her cheek and strolled off.

And the little girl almost got up to follow her.

She thought, “But she didn’t answer.”

So the little girl sat and started to bite her nails.

And she swayed her knees and sighed.

And she looked left and right and left again.

And pretty soon a teenage boy came whizzing by on his skateboard. And just as he leaped into the air,

she yelled up at him. “Are you Know?”

He looked back at her while doing an ollie and shouted back, “Du-nno. Du–nno.” (emphasizing ‘du’ and pronouncing the vowel wrong, or so she thought).

And she sighed.

“I just have to keep waiting for Know I guess. Ugh.”

So she looked at the sky and she looked left and she looked right.

And left again.

And this time, she saw a mother and her small children.

And she squealed and thought, “This has to be Know.”

And she said “Excuse me ma’m? Are you Know?”

And the woman said “Know What?”

And the little girl was satisfied.

She leaped up and said “Can I walk with you?”

And the woman asked, “Why?”

And the girl said, “Because you’re Know what. And I’ve been waiting for Know what.”

The woman replied, “Oh, Is that how they play it now?”

The little girl said, “Huh?”

The woman continued.

“When I was your age, I was supposed to wait for Know, too…

Back then, it was called a Know How….

And my mother before you? She was supposed to wait for Know too. But it was called Know Where.”

The little girl looked puzzled.

So she clarified to be polite, “Wait, Your mom was supposed to look for know-where? or no-where?

And the woman said, “Sad, truly, sigh. At least I got to wait for Know How. And now you’re waiting for Know What.’

Exasperated, the girl insisted, “But I’m tired of waiting for Know.’

And the woman said, “Ahh. Good girl. Looks like you found it .”

And the woman turned and walked off with her littles.

And the girl had a funny look on her face as she stared up into the sky.

And in another few moments, her eyes widened, she drew a huge smile, she hopped off the bench and ran down to the pond. She’d just seen a swan and remembered she’d brought bread crumbs in her pocket and was quite intent on feeding him.

The End ~

Circling back….

Ask yourself: Have you ever said “I dunno” ? Or more seriously “I have NO idea. I’m clueless.”

Probably a silly question.

Gentle nudge to start paying attention to what you say “I dunno” to.

Pay attention to what you say it to, when you say it and try to ask yourself why.

Lemme call it: It’s a rescue strategy.

We sometimes use it so “other”– persons or things —  will help us.

Maybe we use it because we’ve convinced ourselves figuring out something on our own is too hard.

Maybe we fall back on “I dunno” because we’re tired of everything feeling hard.

Maybe we fall back on “I dunno” because we’re so used to saying it it’s just what pops out.

Just start paying attention to when you use it and why and if you truly believe that….and see if you can rev it up a notch and start knowing. Right. Where and As you are.

Tonight’s Activity:

Pick one thing you’ve said forever to yourself “I dunno” to.

(There’s 100s of memories of these in my closet if you need to borrow one). 🙂

Pick one.

Decide to stop saying “I dunno.” To it. About it. Because of it.

Do one thing tonight that will help you eek your way to knowing just a whee bit more of that whatever.

If you need a suggestion here’s one:

Step 1: open up a new window on your computer

Step 2: search this term: register.com

Step 3: go to that site: http://register.com

Step 4: There’s no cost to peeky weeky. So type your name…first and last or first, middle, last into the search bar. (Caution: if all kinds of friek-out happens in thought while you’re doing it? practice “be comfort” and hush it up. You’re fine. You’re just looking. And more, you may decide to register your name. If so that will cost about $10).

Step 5: Search and see if your name is available. If it is, the system will ask you to choose your preferred ending: “.com” or “.org” or “.net”….

Again, hush the friekout session in thoughts. Remind your heart you are just looking.

End of Assignment.

Guess what?

You just practiced KNOWING.

You know now somethings you didn’t know before:

a. how to search a term

b. how to click and go to that site

c. how to see if your name is available as a domain

d. how to see what your ending options are.

*If this was really a lesson in how to register your name, I’d hand hold the process a ton more.

This was simply to keep thoughts movin and grovin.

Okay?

Well, grateful you returned for Keepsake #13…sometimes I have fun writing little stories. Hope it showed. 🙂

Here’s to knowing you can do and be anything you wanna do and be.

Say it with me: Doo-bee doo-bee doo 🙂

Because you do know. Now. Knowing will never be about waiting for what

Knowing will never be about waiting for where

Knowing will never be about waiting for how or why.

Knowing will always be about being.

See you tomorrow night for the 14th Keepsake. 🙂
