31 Keepsakes continue with Keepsake #15: You CAN

Alrighty….here we are mid month.

Whee!

And here we are 1/2 way through the “mentoring_our_moments” focus of our #31Keepsakes.

How’s it going?

Looky what we’ve touched on so far:

How to leave outside the door of thought an icky mucky thought that’s bullied us.

How to create a pause plan should that icky mucky thought re-enter..pause as in pro active use of the situation to embrace ourselves.

How to say I know instead of giving up or giving in to I dunno.

How to leave behind “what if”  and act and be and do.

And sooo.

Without further adieu.

I introduce you to another story….

Once upon a time there was a little turtle.

And this turtle was constantly late.

Or so he thought.

Because everyone was always ahead of him.

And everyone made fun of him.

And pretty soon all of their criticisms mulled around in his thinking all day.

Even when they weren’t anywhere in view.

He’d hear all the time: I’m gonna be late. I’m always late. I’m never on time. They are always ahead of me. I can’t ever get there on time.

And over the years “can’t never get there on time” turned into other thoughts….like:

I can’t do this

I can’t figure this out

I can’t ever do anything right

I can’t do anything …like everyone else can

and he burrowed himself into his shell and was never seen or heard from again.

The End.

See you tomorrow for Keepsake #16.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
….what?
you’re still here?
you’re still reading?
It’s done.
It’s over.
The post.
It’s finished.
The turtle gave up.
That’s it.
Called it quits.
Sianara.
Hasta la vista baby.
Buh bye.
So off with you.
So why are you still here?
What?
You think there’s more to the story?
Why?
Cuz you think I don’t know how to write unhappy ending stories?
Why?
Cuz I’ve never posted one before?
Huh. Good point.
Aren’t you a smart reader.
Hmm.
Okay.
Well, here’s the real story. Only it’s not a story. It’s a question:
EVER WANTED TO BURROW UNDER YOUR SHELL AND JUST. GIVE. UP?
No?
Okay. Well if you’re saying no, you may not wanna read anymore.
Yes?
Ah…Goody. Me too.
In fact, ‘can’t’ can be a pretty deep cave to burrow under for a long. long. time.
Sometimes years.
Alrighty.
I’ll stop the funny light hearted voice.
For a moment.
Hold hands with me a sec:
Pause….
Breathe….
Gentle nudge: ‘Can’t…won’t. and never has. and won’t ever….strangle you or your voice or your right…to be.”
Promise.
Like totally promise.
Why?
Can’t is a counter to our innate good.
Can’t is an opponent to the welling up within us, our childlikeness, our spontaneity, our innocence, our inherent ME.
CAN isn’t something we have to go ‘do.’
CAN is something we are ALREADY BEING.
Confused? Cuz the cave of ‘can’t’ seems so real?
I know.
I was too.
For years.
CAN is a being. It surely becomes a doing because when you feel you CAN then you DO. But the most important thing is to hold this fact:
You are already CAN-ning.
Hee hee. Maybe some of you are really canning yummies for the holidays even. (me want some!!) 🙂 🙂 Kidding. or. not. 🙂
But in life. In our now.
We are each already CAN-ning.
Can’t isn’t our voice.
Can’t is the voice of the not_me.
So….
How can we CAN more???
You know me.
It’s a moment by moment gig.
Watch thoughts.
Get in there when you hear a “I can’t” and replace it with an “I CAN.”
….and then?
GO DO.
WHY?
Because you already are CAN-ning or BE-ing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Activity 5: Do something completely out of the ‘norm’… cuz you can.

Doesn’t matter if it’s have breakfast for dinner or take a cold shower (ewww. not a great example in the middle of winter).

Or paint your toenails blue (yes, the above are mine 🙂 )

Or Simply get up and take a walk, no agenda.

But the real activity: try to catch yourself saying “I can’t” and try….try….to replace it with “I can” and just sit with that….even if you ‘do’ nothing more….Sit with that knowing.

Big big hugs and luvs and see you tomorrow night for Keepsake #16.
